Barely eight kilometres of easy driving separate the country home and its farm from Florence, this property is richly endowed with all comforts and accessories needed to live a comfortable and relaxing stay and it’s particularly suitable for families. All of the interiors recently underwent a major renovation combining clean lines and decor.
The villa features a cultured, refined style, unique, together with a grass tennis court, a heated pool, historic vaulted living rooms and elegant large rooms with ensuite bathrooms. Furnished in upscale Florentine style with period furniture, rooms feature terracotta-tiled floors, exposed beams and frescoes.
The estate also offers guests a splendid park with centuries-old trees and colourful flowers, its tower provides a splendid platform for a panoramic view of the undulating terrain. Surrounded by a park, the grounds feature a comforting swimming pool, a small theatre in a natural setting and paths upon which to set out on walks.
This villa perfectly represents the idyllic countryside life as seen in many evocative Italian movies: the landscape is painting perfect, everything’s scented like flowers blossoming in spring and the entire experience it is quintessentially Italian. The proximity to a number of small villages with restaurants, bread shops, organic markets, artisan’s shops, hidden little churches and monuments, not to mention proximity to Florence, Siena and all the landmarks of Tuscany are all part of the rental experience.
NOTES ON PROPERTY STYLE
The dining chairs are early-19th-century Tuscan, the pendant lights are a custom design and the 17th- and 18th-century engravings are views of Rome. The interiors have always been charming, overflowing with Napoleon-era neoclassical antiques bought by the owner’s grandmother in the Renaissance city of Lucca and refreshed by his mother with chic toiles de Jouy.
Bathrooms and kitchen have just gone through a serious updating, and the whole place in general today expresses a more modern look. In the master bedroom, the bed coronet and curtains are of an Ian Mankin stripe, the rectangular mirror is late-18th-century Venetian and the walls are painted in custom colours. A guest room bed is dressed with a cover in a C&C Milano linen, the Venetian chairs are circa 1800 and the desk is from the late 19th century.
The 19th century French engravings depict hunting scenes and the floor is covered in terra-cotta tile from Impruneta. In the entry hall, the 19th-century Tuscan furnishings include a console and benches with seats upholstered in an Ian Mankin fabric; the flooring is terra-cotta tile from the town of Impruneta. A pair of 18th-century inlaid Tuscan tables flanks a doorway in a sitting room; the wooden armchairs are 18th century Venetian, the floor lamps and straw curtains are by Ilaria Miani and the 19th-century lithographs depict scenes of India.
At the top of the tower, with 360-degree views of the Apennine Mountains, a living room contains a vintage sofa and custom daybeds covered in fabrics by C&C Milano. The motorized shades are bamboo, and the cocktail and side tables are Miani designs. The kitchen cupboard and marble-topped Tuscan tables are 19th-century and the flooring is handmade cement tile from Florence.
